Disaster Assessment Specialist

The Disaster Assessment Specialist is a role that will be assigned at the Neighborhood Coordination Center (NCC) during a crisis. They oversee the collection of information coming in from the block captains from each neighborhood block. By constantly monitoring the situation, gathering real-time data, and assessing the needs of each block, they facilitate the prioritization and allocation of resources such as medical aid and search and rescue.

Preemptive Role
The three main areas to focus on to assure this are at the heart of the EMME mission, planning, training, and resources. You will also need to be familiar with your position’s protocol during a disaster which will serve as a connection between the blocks and vital assistance during a disaster.

Planning

Make sure all Block Captains are trained in the Post-Disaster Assessment Procedures (T.E.A.P.O.T)

Step 1:

Grab your Emergency Coordinator Bag, take your family to your block’s assembly point for check-in, then make your way to the Neighborhood Coordination Center (NCC)

Training

Set up trainings for Block Captains to learn first aid, triage, communications etc.

Step 2:

Make contact with the Communication Coordinator & Medical/Health Officer who should be at the EOC.

Resources

Make sure Block Captains are equipped with what they will need in an emergency. Help them gather vital information about their block, put together a Block Captain Kit and have a communication device.

Step 3:

Begin attempting to make contact with the Block Captains and recording incoming information. Also, dispatching recources as needed.
